Written by Pet Care Store Canada Team * Ships from Canada * CAD pricing * 30-day satisfaction guarantee

Heat stroke kills dogs faster than most pet parents realise. In Canadian summers it usually happens between June and August, often within 30 minutes of a walk or car ride.

Early warning signs

  • Excessive panting that doesn't ease in shade
  • Thick, sticky saliva
  • Bright red or pale gums
  • Slowed response to commands

Emergency signs

  • Wobbly walking or collapse
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Body temperature above 39.5 C
  • Unconsciousness

Call an emergency vet immediately.

What to do

  1. Move to shade or AC immediately
  2. Wet the coat with cool (not ice-cold) water
  3. Offer small sips of water
  4. Drive to a vet -- yes, even if you think they're recovering

Prevention

Walk before 9 AM and after 7 PM in hot weather. Use a cooling mat. Carry water on every walk with the LumoLeaf 800 ml bottle.
