A dog sofa gives your dog a bolstered edge to rest their head on, which most dogs prefer over a flat mat. The raised sides create a sense of enclosure that helps anxious dogs settle, and they stop bedding from being pushed off the edge.
Size using the +20% rule: measure your dog stretched out fully, then add 20% to both length and width. Curled sleepers can use a smaller footprint, but most dogs switch between curled and stretched positions across the night.
Removable, machine-washable covers are not optional for a dog sofa. Look for a zip-off cover and, ideally, a waterproof inner liner - without one, a single accident or spilled water bowl can ruin the cushion permanently.
