A litter box enclosure solves the two problems every cat owner has: litter tracked across the floor, and an open box sitting in the middle of a room. The cabinet contains scatter, hides the box behind a door, and doubles as a side table or console so the footprint earns its keep.
Ventilation is the thing to check. A fully sealed cabinet traps moisture, and damp litter grows bacteria and ammonia faster than an open box ever would. Look for vents, a gap at the back, or a design that does not seal flush to the wall.
Size the interior, not the exterior. The internal cavity needs to fit your actual litter box with room for your cat to turn around. The rule of thumb is an interior 1.5 times your cat's body length from nose to tail base.
Most cats adapt within a few days. Shy cats often prefer the privacy. If your cat hesitates, remove the door for the first week so the entrance is wide open, then reattach it.
It contains odour better than an open box as long as there is ventilation and you scoop daily. A sealed cabinet with no airflow will smell worse, not better.
